People in Need (Človek v ohrození in Slovak) is a Slovakian NGO that advocates the rights of people in need – various vulnerable and marginalised social groups - at home and abroad.

How can it help you

People in Need operate 5 community centres in Eastern Slovakia in order to promote the social integration of the marginalised Roma people. They provide career counselling and help Roma to find jobs and enter on the labour market.

In 2015 they established a new project called Projekt Dom.OV  that was later transformed into an independent NGO. Projekt Dom.OV is operating housing programmes for the Roma on the basis of a special microloan scheme.

Activities

  • Running community centres for the Roma communities
  • Organising housing programmes for the Roma
  • Providing career counselling and assistance in finding jobs
  • Promoting intercultural understanding and dialogue between the majority and the Roma minority
  • Organising solidarity campaigns for people in need in other parts of the world and assisting in humanitarian situations abroad
