Notification about arrest

Will anyone know that you have been arrested?

When you are arrested, you have the right to ask the police to inform your relatives or other person about your arrest. The information will not be provided if it could negatively impact the investigation of the matter. In case of juvenile detained person, parents, other legal representative, and child welfare authority will be informed without undue delay.

If you are a foreigner, you have the right to ask the police to inform the embassy or consulate of your country about your arrest.

It is important to notify your relatives (or the embassy of your country), to make sure that they know about your whereabouts, that you are being held by the state authorities and, if necessary, assist you from outside.  They may also help you to find better legal aid to challenge your arrest or help in preparing your case.
