Office for Personal Data Protection

The Office for Personal Data Protection of the Slovak Republic is an independent state authority established by law, supervising the protection of the rights of natural persons against unauthorised processing of their personal data.

How can it help you

If you believe that your right to personal data protection has been violated, you should complain to the Office for Personal Data Protection by submitting an application. Your complaint to initiate proceeding shall be submitted by mail or electronically with authorization under a special regulation or personally, at the Office. 

If the Office establishes a violation of your rights, it can order the subject who has misused your data to rectify or delete the data or ensure that your rights are not violated by other means.

Activities

  • Monitoring the implementation of the Act on the Protection of Personal Data and supervision of compliance with personal data protection rules
  • Examination of complaints from individuals regarding the protection of personal data, and acting in proceedings related to these complaints
  • Commenting draft legislation and recommendations aimed at raising the efficiency of personal data protection
  • Providing consultation in the area of the protection of personal data and providing methodological guidelines on personal data processing
  • Promoting public awareness, in particular on risks and rights in relation to processing of personal data
  • Monitoring the impact on the protection of personal data of new information and communication technologies and commercial practices
  •  Cooperating with the European Data Protection Board and with supervisory authorities of other member states
