The Human Rights Olympics (Olympiáda ľudských práv – OĽP in Slovak) is a prestigious national competition of secondary school students in the area of human rights and democracy.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, OĽP is a semi-autonomous initiative supervised by an expert panel of the National Commission for the Human Rights Olympics in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights Education at the Comenius University in Bratislava, OLYMP civic association and the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Slovakia who provide also the organisational and professional background and members of the National Jury.

How can it help you

The Human Rights Olympics is a unique initiative in its category not only in Europe, but over the world, as well. It uses innovative and modern elements of education, develops creativity, communication and presentation skills, techniques of argumentation, and helps young people to form their own opinion. It significantly contributes towards prevention and elimination of discrimination, racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance. The history of OĽP goes back to 1996. 

If you are a teacher of civic education or history or you are pupil or student interested in developing your knowledge about human rights and your democratic participation skills, you should take part at the competition. The experts of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights or the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights Education can help you to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in order to develop your personality in accordance with the culture of democracy and human rights.

Activities

  • Organising school rounds and regional rounds of the competition
