Citizen, Democracy & Accountability – ODZ

Citizen, Democracy & Accountability (Občan, demokracia a zodpovednosť – ODZ in Slovak) is an independent non-governmental organization promoting human rights, non-discrimination and gender equality. It was founded in 1992 as the Minority Rights Group’s Slovakian branch. Since 2010 it has been operating under the current name.

How can it help you

You can turn to ODZ for consultation in matters relating to any form of discrimination you may suffer. ODZ may take up your issue for strategic litigation as part of their effort to achieve a major breakthrough in the decision-making practice of the courts and in designing human rights policies of the government. ODZ also offers tailor-made training activities for special target groups like prison guards’ employees, policemen, public administration officials, judges and judicial employees.

Activities

  • Advocacy activities – strategic litigation and human rights campaigns in order to change public policies
  • Participation in drafting legislation, forming human rights policies and monitoring their implementation
  • Training of professionals in acquiring skills and good practices in accordance with human rights and good governance
  • Doing research and analyses in the field of equal treatment and gender equality 
  • Issuing publications, commentaries, education and methodological materials for professionals and for general public
  • Participation in drafting shadow reports on non-discrimination, gender equality and women’s rights
